Sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your telegram of the 10th ultimo, in which you

notified your approval of the recommendations of Sir Henry Blake with regard to the Staff of the Colonial Secretary's

Office as detailed in his Despatches No. 282 of the 10th July and No. 447 of the 29th October last.

2.

You

While those recommendations have now, consequently upon your approval, been given effect to, I have to

inform you of certain changes which have become necessary since Sir Henry Blake's Despatch No. 258 was written, and to

ask for your approval of the partial redistribution of appointments which was provisionally authorised by him.

3.

Mr. Asger has been promoted to be 4th Clerk vice Mr. Cordeiro, deceased, and Mr. Rozario to be 5th Clerk. Mr. Pestonji has been promoted to be 6th Clerk, thereby

leaving the 7th Clerkship vacant. To this vacancy Mr. Kotewall has been provisionally appointed. He has hitherto served in

the Police Department and has been highly recommended by Mr. May and by Mr. Badeley as an able and zealous clerk. Finally,

Mr. Lenfestey has taken the place of Mr. Elias as 9th (and temporary) Clerk, and is giving satisfaction. I have now the

honour to ask that these promotions and changes may be confirmed.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.,
